At Fawcett Mattress, we understand that choosing the right mattress is about more than just comfort—it’s about aligning with your values of sustainability and health. As eco-conscious consumers increasingly prioritize natural and organic materials, the mattress market has expanded to offer products that claim to meet these needs. However, not all natural and organic mattresses are created equal.

In this comparison, we’re taking a close look at our Goldstream Mattress versus the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress to highlight the key differences in materials, construction, comfort, and overall value. We’re proud of our mattresses and want to give you a transparent comparison to help you make the best decision for your sleep and lifestyle.

Materials & Sustainability

Silk & Snow Organic Mattress
Silk & Snow’s Organic Mattress is built with sustainability in mind, incorporating organic cotton, organic New Zealand wool, and 100% natural Dunlop latex. The cotton and wool are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified, and the latex is GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certified. They also use pocketed coils made from recycled steel, which adds to the mattress's eco-friendliness.

While these materials are a solid choice for an eco-conscious mattress, Silk & Snow manufactures its mattresses overseas, increasing their overall carbon footprint due to transportation. Their materials are certified, but there’s an opportunity to reduce environmental impact through more localized production.

Fawcett Goldstream Mattress
At Fawcett, we’re committed to offering the best in both sustainability and comfort. Our 100% Natural Vita Talalay Latex is certified GOLD by the prestigious European standard, Cradle to Cradle Certified®, a globally recognized measure of safer, more sustainable products made for the circular economy. The Cradle to Cradle® certification ensures that our latex meets the highest standards for sustainability, making it safer for your health and better for the environment.

Additionally, our organic cotton outer layer is Oeko-tex Standard 100 certified, meaning it is tested and free from harmful substances, further contributing to a cleaner and healthier sleep environment. Our organic wool helps regulate body temperature naturally while maintaining a smaller carbon footprint.

Because we manufacture our mattresses locally in Victoria, BC , we not only support the local economy but also significantly reduce our environmental impact compared to overseas production. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond just the raw materials—we are deeply invested in building a product that supports both your health and the planet.

Construction & Comfort

Goldstream Matress Getting stitched

Silk & Snow Organic Mattress
Silk & Snow’s Organic Mattress combines a soft organic cotton cover with a layer of organic wool for temperature regulation, followed by 0.8 inches of natural Dunlop latex . The mattress then incorporates individually pocketed coils to offer support and reduce motion transfer. This construction gives the mattress a medium firmness, providing a balance of support and comfort. However, the thinner latex layer may not offer the same level of pressure relief as thicker latex layers, especially for side sleepers or those who need more contouring.

While Silk & Snow’s construction is sound, the one-size-fits-all approach to firmness may not work for everyone, especially for couples with different sleep preferences or for those with specific pressure-relief needs.

Fawcett Goldstream Mattress
Our Goldstream Mattress offers a more customizable and supportive sleep experience . It features 2 inches of 100% Natural Vita Talalay Latex , offering superior pressure relief compared to Silk & Snow’s 0.8 inches of Dunlop latex. Talalay latex is more breathable, resilient, and softer than Dunlop, providing a buoyant feel that cradles your body’s curves while keeping you cool. It’s especially beneficial for relieving pressure points, making it ideal for side sleepers and those who experience discomfort in their shoulders, hips, or lower back.

In addition to the luxurious Talalay latex, our mattress is built with a robust quad-coil system that offers exceptional support and ensures proper spinal alignment . This combination of materials and construction provides a more personalized sleep experience. We even offer customizable firmness on each side of the mattress, so couples can choose their preferred comfort levels—whether it’s soft, medium, or firm. This is an option Silk & Snow does not offer.

Durability & Longevity

Silk & Snow Organic Mattress
Silk & Snow’s use of natural latex and recycled steel coils contributes to the overall durability of their mattress. Latex is a long-lasting material compared to synthetic foams, and the pocketed coils help extend the mattress's life by preventing sagging. With proper care, Silk & Snow’s Organic Mattress should last around 8-10 years. However, the 0.8-inch latex layer may not offer the same level of comfort in terms of pressure relief as a thicker Talalay latex layer would.

Fawcett Goldstream Mattress
We designed the Goldstream Mattress with durability in mind . Our use of 2 inches of Natural Talalay latex ensures that the mattress not only provides superior pressure relief but also maintains its shape and responsiveness for years. Talalay latex is inherently more resilient than Dunlop latex, and it resists wear and compression, meaning your mattress will continue to feel as supportive and comfortable as the day you bought it.

Furthermore, because we craft our mattresses locally, we can control every aspect of production, ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship. This attention to detail, combined with premium materials, means the Goldstream Mattress is built to last far beyond the average lifespan of most mattresses, often exceeding the 10-year mark with proper care.

Value & Price

Silk & Snow Organic Mattress
Silk & Snow offers their Organic Mattress at around $1,250 CAD for a queen size , making it a reasonably priced option for an entry-level organic mattress. The materials are high quality, and the price point is accessible, but the thinner latex layer and mass production overseas may impact the mattress's long-term comfort and durability.

Fawcett Goldstream Mattress
Our Goldstream Mattress , priced at $1,399 CAD for a queen size , offers exceptional value when you consider the 2 inches of Talalay latex and the superior construction. While the upfront cost is slightly higher than Silk & Snow, the longer-lasting durability , personalized comfort , and premium materials make it a better long-term investment. Plus, we’re proud to offer locally crafted products that not only reduce environmental impact but also support our community.

Additionally, when you purchase a mattress from Fawcett, you’re not just buying a product—you’re investing in better sleep and long-term comfort. And, as a bonus, we offer 5% store credit on every purchase, allowing you to save on future purchases, whether it’s for bedding, accessories, or another mattress.

Health Benefits & Certifications

Silk & Snow uses GOTS-certified cotton and wool and GOLS-certified latex in their mattress, ensuring the materials are sourced sustainably and free from harmful chemicals. Fawcett Goldstream Mattress
At Fawcett, we take our certifications just as seriously. Our 100% Natural Vita Talalay Latex is Cradle to Cradle Certified® GOLD , a certification that’s globally recognized for promoting safer, more sustainable products designed for a circular economy. This ensures that our latex is as safe as it is eco-friendly.

Our organic cotton is Oeko-tex Standard 100 certified , meaning it has been tested for harmful substances, ensuring a cleaner, healthier sleep environment. Additionally, our natural wool is temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic, contributing to an overall healthier sleep experience.
