Sleep Hypnosis is the practice of using a hypnotherapist to induce sleep. It involves listening to soothing words or relaxing verbal cues help put you a trance-like state.

The hypnotherapist uses statements like “let go” or “relax” during the session to help the subject focus on relaxation. People suffering from sleep disorders like insomnia or sleepwalking can benefit from sleep hypnosis practices.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

Hypnotherapists use the power of suggestion and evocation to induce relaxation to someone. They use a step by step formula to guide you through a meditative journey to calm your mind. “Hypnotic induction techniques” –  like guided imagery and symptom control are used to manipulate and influence the mind.

Some people have a face to face therapy sessions with a hypnotherapist. Others, perform self-hypnosis by listening to audio recordings. Hypnosis recordings can usually be found on hypnotherapists websites. These can be downloaded to various devices to listen to.

The merits of sleep hypnosis depend on whether the subject believes it can actually help people sleep.

Research conducted suggests hypnotherapy may need to be integrated with cognitive-behavioral therapy to achieve better results for sleep problems. Still other research suggests that certain people just cannot be hypnotized at all.

Some researchers believe that sleep hypnosis is not designed to induce sleep immediately but rather to calm the brain so that it can transition to a calmer state where sleep is possible.

Contrary to what most believe, sleep hypnosis makes puts us in a hyper attentive and hyper responsive mental state. If you’ve ever been engrossed in a good book or movie, then you’ve experienced a form quasi hypnotic state. You literally don’t hear what’s going on around you due to intense focus.

About 35% of adults do not get to have the recommended amount of sleep. There’s all sorts of reasons why people don’t get enough sleep.

It seems the biggest benefit from hypnosis is that it brings us into a state of relaxation, and this can help get to sleep faster and to get more deep sleep.

We haven’t created any mattresses that induce sleep hypnosis yet. Although some of our clients may disagree. If we had to pick a Fawcett mattress that would be most likely to induce a hypnotic sleep. Hmm…
